The family

We take care of our lands

in Caltagirone (Catania) since 1898, when grandfather Giuseppe founded the farm.

Caltagirone is known in the world for its staircase with ceramic tiles Today. It is the city of sicilian ceramics par excellence. Today it is famous above all for its colorful pinettes and its Moorish heads hand made by expert craftsmen. But not only...

Even centuries ago in Caltagirone ceramics were worked, creating "special" objects, which have come to the present day full of memories, with their stories, often told by the elderly to the new generations. Tangible evidence of a past in which the only sustenance for families was given by the "earth", so the creation of these ceramic and terracotta artifacts was linked to the completion of work in the countryside.

Today in the grandparents’ house one can discover huge amphorae in which the must was placed, smaller containers used as vases, or very large plates and amphorae. We also find the ornamental statues that recall moments of rural life in Caltagirone. Small treasures that remind us of our origins, that deep bond with Mother Earth.

Looking for in the drawers of the grandparents’ desk, or in the wardrobes, old photographs of family members and collaborators re-emerge that have helped us to cultivate our passion. Many people portrayed no longer have names, memories, affections are distant, but after more than a century they made us find their most precious asset: a fantastic land where to grow Sicilian wheat.

Our wheat varieties are the "original" ones, as they were created by Mother Nature and are not born in a laboratory; even the fields have remained unchanged since 1898. The varieties of ancient wheat are still worked with stone grinding, as was done in the past.

The modernization of the company took place only in its management, while the cultivation techniques of the fields have remained almost unchanged, keeping the love and respect for our lands and our fruits unchanged. Modern machinery makes work easier, they help us from sowing to harvesting wheat.

There has been a substantial change in the tools used in the countryside compared to those of today; in the drawers of grandfather Giuseppe’s desk and dusting off some moments of Sicilian peasant life, we realize that that passion for our land, that deep bond that unites more than two generations, has remained unchanged after more than 120 years.
